We’re officially heading into winter and it’s time to get those dahlias OUT… if you haven’t already.
Saving your dahlias year after year reaps great benefits, like:
- Bigger roots for BIGGER plants!
- Bigger roots that can be SPLIT into MULTIPLE plants
- Saving Money!
In this video, Generoso demonstrates how to safely remove your dahlias from the ground, being careful not to damage them.
After, popping them out, here’s our main tips for STORAGE:
- Store in a Big Box - Cardboard Works Great!
- Layer DRY Leaves in the Box, Followed by Dahlias, Topped with More DRY Leaves
- Store in a Cool Dry Place, Like the Basement (Not TOO Cold)
- DO NOT Store them Outside (Keep Around 50 Degrees)
- Wait Til Spring!
And YES — dahlia roots are edible. We haven’t tried them, but if you have, LET US KNOW.
We prefer to stick to planting 😉
